I, like most job seekers, have left an interview knowing that I had completely flunked it. When I read the title of this article, I thought about one particularly bad interview I had in college. I went in confident and prepared. Then as soon as I sat down, the confidence left my body and the nerves settled in. I tripped over my words, forgot every question I wanted to ask, and left thinking that there was no way I got the job. And I didn’t.

After that one interview, I spent years thinking that the problem was that I was just plain bad at interviews. I suffered through quite a few more duds before I finally got my confidence back.
