Dentons has hired a commercial litigation partner from DLA Piper for its Melbourne, Australia, office to quickly meet client demand for recovery and restructuring advice.

Kon Tsiakis joins the firm with 20 years’ experience in advising major banks on asset recovery, insolvency practitioners on all aspects of external administrations, and clients in relation to international cross-border insolvency issues, Dentons said.

“Kon joins an incredibly talented and experienced recovery and restructuring team. He will be an invaluable asset to the strategic growth of this practice as part of our drive to become the preeminent global firm in the Australasia region,” Dentons’ Australia region chair and Australasia CEO Doug Stipanicev said in a statement.

“We thank Kon for his contribution to our firm, and wish him all the best for the future,” DLA Piper said in a statement.

Special counsel Ryan Hennessey also joins the firm from DLA Piper.

Other firms, including CMS in London, are increasing their restructuring work as a result of business pressures on companies arising from the COVID-19 virus.
