CMS strengthens Patents team with double partner appointment

21 June 2019

International law firm CMS is delighted to announce the appointment of two partners, Dr. Rachel Free and Jane Evenson, further strengthening the firm’s London patent attorney team. The CMS patent attorney practice now boasts a team of 30 specialists, with five partners, and forms a fully integrated part of the wider Intellectual Property team of over 100 IP professionals.

Rachel Free is a hi-tech specialist, with 20 years patent experience and a deep understanding of AI and computer science. Jane Evenson has over 20 years of experience working in the life sciences and chemistry fields, with a strong focus on biologicals such as antibody technologies.

Robert Stephen, Head of the Patent Attorney practice, said: “We are delighted to welcome Rachel and Jane into the partnership. Rachel’s expertise in AI and computer science has been in high demand as our clients look to protect their AI-based innovation. As an experienced partner, Jane brings significant European Patent Office opposition and appeal expertise, and will further support and develop our rapidly growing life science practice, in particular in the antibody and biologics space.”

These appointments follow hot on the heels of CMS’ recent global partner promotions, which saw the firm promote 49 to partner across 23 cities globally. In the UK alone, 21 new partners were appointed, including IP litigator Caitlin Heard. Progressing female talent has long been a strategic priority of the firm. In a strong showing this year, women account for 78% of all UK partner promotions.
