Kirkland's William Barr confirmed as US Attorney General
Veteran conservative lawyer returns for second stint as Attorney General, following Senate confirmation.
Kirkland & Ellis of counsel William Barr has been confirmed as United States Attorney General, following a split confirmation vote that saw three Democratic senators join with the Republican majority in confirming Barr in the position, with only one Republican dissenting, in what was a straightforward partisan vote on the appointment.
Barr, who previously held office as Attorney General during the administration of George H.W. Bush nearly 30 years ago, having also previously served as deputy attorney general and head of the Department of Justice (DoJ)’s office of legal counsel during the Reagan administration, is seen as a reliable conservative appointment to the post. Then, Barr was confirmed unanimously; this time, much less so.
