Foley Hoag Represents Dell Technologies in $145.8M Sale of Mozy

Foley Hoag LLP represented information technology corporation Dell Technologies in its $145.8 million sale of Mozy, Inc. to data protection company Carbonite, Inc. (Nasdaq: CARB). The sale is expected to close in the first quarter of 2018.

Dell Technologies, based in Round Rock, Texas, is a unique family of businesses that provides the essential infrastructure for organizations to build their digital future, transform IT and protect their most important asset, information. The company services customers of all sizes across 180 countries – ranging from 98 percent of the Fortune 500 to individual consumers – with the industry's most comprehensive and innovative portfolio from the edge to the core to the cloud.

Mozy is an online backup service offering complete data protection in the cloud to individuals, small and medium businesses, or large enterprises. The company has offices in Draper, Utah; London, England; Cork, Ireland; and Shanghai, China. Acquired by EMC Corporation in 2007, Mozy became a subsidiary of Dell as a result of a merger between Dell and EMC in 2016.

The sale of Mozy to Carbonite is expected to provide Mozy customers with scalable options for the future and help Carbonite capture more of the data protection market.
