McDermott Scales Transactions Group to Meet Heightened Demand for Complex Financial Restructuring Support

Overview

International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to  announce that Charles (Chuck) Gibbs has joined the Firm as partner in the Restructuring and Insolvency practice group based in the Dallas office. Chuck is the seventh partner addition to the group since mid-2019. With him, Mark Patterson and Eric Seitz each join as Counsel and Jane Gerber and Shelby Perry join as Associates.

“Our clients are actively exploring every option to emerge from this crisis stronger than they went into it,” said Harris Siskind, global head of McDermott’s Corporate and Transactional Group and a Miami-based partner. “This means they need advisors that understand the landscape and are ready to think creatively about solutions. Chuck and his team provide creditor, debtor and distressed investment clients with creative solutions in and out of court. Their addition strengthens the Dallas team and bolsters our already strong Restructuring & Insolvency practice.”

Chuck focuses his practice on complex financial restructurings for public and private companies on both debtor and creditor sides. His work spans several jurisdictions and cross-border matters for debtors, secured creditors, creditors’ committees, equity committees and asset buyers. Chuck also partners with non-money center secured lenders in handling high-profile real estate loan workouts in and out of court. He has experience working with clients across several industries, including real estate, oil and gas, food and beverage and retail. Chuck also counsels private equity firms on distressed portfolio companies.

“We are very excited to leverage the many benefits of McDermott’s dynamic platform,” Chuck said. “McDermott stands as a steady leader during this uncertain time, and I look forward to introducing our clients to its many resources while bringing new insights and experience to the team.”

Chuck earned his BA from Duke University, his MBA and JD from Southern Methodist University. Prior to joining McDermott, Chuck was a Partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman.

Mark works closely with real estate developers and investors, lenders and servicers throughout all stages of complex commercial real estate transactions and finance matters.
