Mayor Eric Adams announced last week that he has reappointed 10 judges to the bench in New York City, including Amanda White, the supervising judge of the Kings County Family Court.

The other judges re-appointed this week include: Hon. Sara Litman, Hon. Michael Ryan, Hon. Dale Fong-Frederick, Hon. Germaine Auguste, Hon. Simiyon Haniff, Hon. Rachel Pauley, Hon. Peter Passidomo, Hon. Gilbert Taylor, and Judge White.

Of the 10 judges reappointed, seven will sit in the New York City Criminal Court, three in Family Court, and at least three will sit in Brooklyn including Judge White, and judges Fong-Frederick and Ryan.

Judge White, a graduate of the University of Iowa and New York University School of Law, has served as the Supervising Judge of the Kings County Family Court since June 2013. She was previously appointed to the bench in January 2011, and has presided in Brooklyn the entire time.

Judge White chairs the Committee for Lesbian, Gay, bi-sexual & Transgender Matters of the NYC Family Court Advisory Counsel to the Administrative Judge. She was also one of two judges to cover the “Crossover Youth” part, which handles juvenile delinquency and child protective cases.

Before she became a judge, Judge White worked at the Legal Aid Society for 18 years and was attorney-in-charge of the Bronx trial office of the Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Division when she left for the bench.

Fong-Fredrick was a court attorney-referee in the Kings County Surrogate’s Court, who often worked alongside Justice Rosemarie Montalbano. Fong-Frederick is another with a background in the Legal Aid Society where he worked in the Criminal Defense Division in Queens as both a staff attorney and a senior staff attorney.

He later joined the New York County Defender Services and briefly served as a Criminal Court law clerk before he re-joined Legal Aid. It was in his second tenure with the Legal Aid Society that Fong-Frederick began working in Brooklyn for the Criminal Defense Division. Fong-Frederick also had a solo practice before he joined the court system.

Two other notable Brooklyn names on the list include Sara Litman, a former prosecutor and a principal court attorney in the Supreme Court in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Manhattan, and Michael Ryan, a prosecutor with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. Both will be assigned to the Kings County Criminal Court.

Ryan’s entire career has been with the District Attorney’s Office, including the last eight years as chief of the Criminal Courts Unit. He served in various bureaus including a stint as deputy bureau chief of the Early Case Assessment, Rackets, and the Criminal Court bureaus. He was also the chief of the Human Trafficking Bureau and Investigations Division.
