House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California arrives to speak at an event early Wednesday morning, Nov. 9, 2022, in Washington, D.C. In a guest column today, the Rev. Marvin A. McMickle, pastor emeritus of Antioch Baptist Church, writes that, based on GOP officials' comments, the House under GOP leadership next year is likely to turn into a grievance machine, aiming investigations broadly against Democrats, from the president's family on down. CLEVELAND -- Over the last two years, Democrats in Congress, working with President Joe Biden, worked to create and pass legislation dealing with climate change, national infrastructure, inflation, gun control, payroll relief for small businesses, domestic production of microchips, medical assistance for military veterans suffering from exposure to toxic burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan, and various forms of help for a nation dealing with the global COVID-19 pandemic -- to name only some of the bills passed into law in the 117th Congress.

All of this was achieved with little to no support from Republicans in either the House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate. In short, Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put on a master class in political governance.
