WWII veteran from New Canaan honored 12 days before 100th birthday

A World War II veteran from New Canaan is getting ready to turn 100 years old.
Just 12 days away from his 100th birthday, William Jones was recognized by Sen. Richard Blumenthal for his lifetime of public service.
"He has truly given of himself to his community and his nation,” said Sen. Blumenthal.
Jones served in the Pacific on the Aircraft carrier U.S.S. Essex during World War II. He went on to become a 31-year veteran of the New Canaan police department, retiring as a lieutenant.
He is also proud to be the longest-serving volunteer firefighter in New Canaan history and to have trained at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 1965.
Jones was deeply honored to be recognized for his achievements.
"I appreciate it and I thank you very much from the bottom of my heart," he said.
