‘How do we handle Cuomo?’: Samantha Bee says team ignored Cuomo harassment allegations

.

Left-wing comedian Samantha Bee said in an episode of the Sway podcast Monday that she is not a fan of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo but felt calling him out on the sexual harassment cases would not sit well with the audience.

Bee said Cuomo’s reputation of being a father figure and “hero” to many in New York during COVID-19 was not something she wanted to damage, especially because of the pandemic.

“I was not a Cuomosexual, particularly,” Bee said. “And there were many, many times, actually, during the pandemic, where we had big show-wide conversations about, how do we handle Cuomo? Because he’s super problematic … It felt [like] a place where it wasn’t quite the time to be like, hey, just like, check it out, he’s actually an a**hole. We felt like we would just miss completely with our audience. And people weren’t really there to hear that at that moment.”

Bee has called out other prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, and Vice President Kamala Harris. However, she has also decided to go easy on President Joe Biden.

Earlier this year, however, Bee changed her tune on Cuomo and reminded her viewers that Cuomo is not the hero many have turned him into.

“Back in 2020, we were so desperate for a leader who wouldn’t tell us to go bleach ourselves, we turned Governor Andrew Cuomo into a hero,” Bee said. “Politicians aren’t infallible. If we treat them like they are, we’ll be disappointed. We need all of our officials to work for us and part of that means holding that accountable. Just because Governor Cuomo steps into a leadership void during the pandemic doesn’t mean he gets a pass on his consistently s***y behavior.”
