U.S. Senator Murphy embarks on 5th Walk Across CT, annual effort to hear directly from residents

Conn. (WTNH) — U.S. Senator Chris Murphy is walking across Connecticut once again. It is the fifth time he has walked the state.

Each year he takes a slightly different route. This year, he began in Enfield (Monday) and will wrap up in New Haven (likey on Thursday).

Sen. Murphy says he wants to hear from Connecticut residents first-hand and gather feedback to bring back to Washington D.C.

On Tuesday, News 8’s Chief Political Anchor Dennis House caught up with Murphy as he cross the Founders Bridge from East Hartford into the Capital City.

The senator stopped and talked to people along the walk, including one who was concerned about crime. The man, who said he lives in the south end of the city, told Murphy he doesn’t feel safe with the high levels of crime in the area.

Murphy also talked with people about COVID-19, jobs, and homelessness. He told us he learns quite a bit about our state on these walks.

Sen. Murphy is having a town hall meeting in Rocky Hill Tuesday evening. Wednesday he’ll head south.
