Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urged Republicans to consider President-elect Joe Biden's cabinet nominees in a speedy and fair manner and "not let petty political animus get in the way."

Speaking to reporters at the Capitol Tuesday, hours after Biden announced his economic team, including Janet Yellen to lead the Treasury Department, Schumer warned the country is already witnessing "pearl clutching about overblown complaints from Republican senators who conveniently ignored scandal after scandal in the Trump administration."

Neera Tanden, Biden’s pick for director of the Office of Management and Budget, in particular, is already drawing heavy Republican criticism.

Some Republicans are expressing doubt that Tanden could be confirmed by the Senate after she spent years attacking GOP lawmakers on social media - and many panned the choice.

"After spending four years pretending they didn't see the latest insane tweet from President Trump, Republican senators have just found the passwords to their Twitter accounts since they're now suddenly concerned about what's being said about them on Twitter," Schumer said.

He urged Senators to follow historical precedent and hold hearings on Biden's nominees in January before the inauguration.

Schumer also predicted Attorney General Bill Barr would be next on President Donald Trump's list of officials likely to be fired after telling the Associated Press Tuesday there is no evidence of widespread election fraud that would change the outcome of the election.

"I guess he's the next one to be fired since he now, too, says there is no fraud. Trump seems to fire anyone in that regard," Schumer said.
