Velázquez on Passing of Danny Kronenfeld

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) released the following statement regarding the passing of Danny Kronenfeld:

"I was heartbroken to hear of the passing of Danny Kronenfeld, former Executive Director of Henry Street Settlement. For three decades, Danny worked at Henry Street, infusing it with his energy and passion. During his 16 years as Executive Director, Danny turned around Henry Street's financial situation and shepherded the organization to a sounder footing.

"A pioneer in the field of social service, Danny created the nation's first family homeless shelter, at Henry Street Settlement. He will also be remembered for developing the first supportive services program in the city for families where a parent had HIV/AIDS. He created innovative, specialized services for the growing Lower East Side Asian community, and established Henry Street's Senior Companions Program and Workforce Development Center.

"Countless New Yorkers' lives are better because of Danny's contributions. Today, thanks to his tireless work, Henry Street Settlement continues to be a vital community anchor, helping our neighbors thrive and succeed. We will all miss Danny and my prayers are with his family, friends and all who knew and loved them. I hope they find comfort in the innumerable ways he strengthened our City and in the many lives he brightened."
