Rep. Chris Collins said Tuesday that Republicans will probably release another memo in response to the Democratic memo if President Trump approves its release.
“My guess is after the Democrat rebuttal is released, and I’m confident it will be, you’ll probably see a Republican rebuttal to the rebuttal,” Mr. Collins, New York Republican, said on CNN.
He said Republicans would release a follow up in part because of the role of the so-called Steele dossier that was used to justify the surveillance warrants for some members of Mr. Trump’s campaign.
Christopher Steele is a former British intelligence officer who helped compile the research for the unverified dossier. Republicans pointed to these revelations as evidence of political bias and an abusive use of the surveillance system.
Republicans Friday released their memo detailing allegations of bias, and the House Intelligence Committee voted to release the Democratic memo on Monday. Mr. Trump has to approve the Democratic memo as he did with Republicans, but White House aides have indicated that he intends to approve its release.
