GOP Rep: Dems May Not Be Treasonous, But They’re ‘Un-American,’ ‘Don’t Love Our Country’

Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY) doesn’t think Congressional Democrats committed treason by refusing to applaud President Donald Trump‘s State of the Union speech, but she does agree with him that they don’t like America.

The congresswoman spoke with CNN’s Erica Hill on Tuesday — who asked her if she agreed with how Trump went off on “treasonous” lawmakers who wouldn’t applaud his address last Tuesday. Tenney not only agreed with Trump for the most part, she actually reiterated many of his comments — all while bashing Democrats for being all about obstruction and failing to acknowledge the issues Trump was speaking about.

“I would say it was un-American, and they don’t love our country. I don’t know if I would go as far as treasonous, but the president is before a large audience and he likes to talk in colorful language. I sat on the Democratic side, and I was frankly appalled at the behavior of the Democrats…I thought it was terrible that they didn’t [stand] for very American ideas, and why not? They’re just about resist? What does resist mean? Obstruct. They’re not interested in dialogue. Not interested in working with us and trying to come up with solutions.”

Hill followed up by noting that Joe Wilson and other Republicans in Congress protested during President Barack Obama‘s State of the Union speeches. Penney accused Hill of “mischaracterizing” Republicans, saying the GOP applauded American values during Obama’s speeches whereas Democrats will not stand for Trump at all.
