Out of New York’s nine GOP Representatives, five voted against the bill.

That includes Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who has been against the plan since the beginning, saying it hurts the North Country.

In a statement she said, “This bill highlights the failure of New York State to rein in spending, and to reduce the tax burden for all New Yorkers.”

Union groups also spoke out against the bill and said they would be coming for the lawmakers who voted in support of the plan.

The Senate Finance Committee is working on its own tax overhaul bill now.

New York Senator Chuck Schumer has spoken out almost daily against the bill.

“This bill will be a huge burden for republicans to carry on their backs over the next year.” Said Schumer.

Eventually any legislation approved by each chamber will have to be reconciled into one plan.
