Refugees Helping Refugees will receive a nearly $200,000 grant to facilitate successful transition to life in the U.S.
Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-Perinton, on Monday announced the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement grant that will help the volunteer-based nonprofit organization in Rochester.
“This federal award for Refugees Helping Refugees is a testament to the inclusive, important work happening right here in our community,” Slaughter said in a statement. “For 15 years this not-for-profit has helped countless refugees in Rochester gain the resources and the skills they need to thrive.”
Refugees Helping Refugees was founded in 2002 and offers a wide range of services to refugees in English for Speakers of Other Languages classes, case management, healthy living programs and vocational training, among other things.
