Rep. Meeks Statement on N. Korea Devising Plan to Launch Missiles at Guam

Washington, D.C.—After the North Korean regime announced it would develop a plan by mid-August to launch intermediate range missiles at Guam, Senior Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, released the following statement:

"The very concerns I had about Donald Trump the candidate are manifesting themselves in Donald Trump the president. Trump's reckless rhetoric is taking us to a dangerous place that puts our allies and us at risk. Kim Jong Un's rashness should not be met with American rashness.

"Fortunately, the Constitution outlines the US Congress' responsibility in checking the president. It is crucial that Congress not abdicate that responsibility. We must work across the aisle and across both chambers in a responsible way, with an eye towards diplomacy.

"Now, moving forward after the release, I'll be considering what exactly Congress could and should do to check the Commander-in-Chief. The release begs that question."
