State Republicans get huge donation from chairman’s brother

Thanks, bro!

The New York State Republican Party has received an eye-popping $500,000 contribution — from the brother of GOP chairman Ed Cox.

The donation by venture capitalist Howard Cox accounted for more than half the $941,000 taken in by the party for its housekeeping account over the last six months.

In all its accounts, the state GOP took in $2.2 million.

It was also the largest single campaign contribution to a state political committee since 2012, when billionaire Mayor Mike Bloomberg sent in a $1 million to state Senate Republicans — who usually did his bidding.

Howard Cox, 73, is a longtime partner at the Silicon Valley venture capital firm Greylock Partners.

The Army vet sits on the board of more than 30 companies and is a director at Stryker Corp, a medical technology company.

He has previously given the state GOP five contributions of $100,000 each.

Ed Cox thanked and praised his brother.

“I’ve done well. Howard’s done better. We’re all stepping up,” he said. “We are very close as a family. We work together and we’re working together for the sake of New York State. Howard is a staunch Republican. He was brought up in New York State. He rode his motorcycle back and forth to Columbia Law School.”

Ed Cox said the GOP is entering an important two-year election cycle that includes the New York City mayor’s race this year and the governor’s and congressional races next year.

“Cuomo is sinking in the polls. We are the swing state to control of Congress in 2018,” he said.

The GOP will be looking to defend nine New York house seats next year.
