For more than 20 years Amy Paulin has been a force for women in the New York State Assembly. She has been part of hundreds of bills that became laws, many protecting the rights of women, like bills extending the length of orders of protection, ending the statute of limitations for first degree rape and ending the “boyfriend loophole” for gun purchases by people with a history as domestic violence offenders.

She is now laser-focused on protecting women’s health, with a new bill that would protect New Yorkers from the Texas abortion law.

Paulin joined In Focus to talk about the bill, which prevents New Yorkers who help a woman leave Texas to terminate a pregnancy from sacrificing assets if they are sued by private citizens, who, according to the law, are allowed to bring lawsuits against anyone who aids and abets women seeking abortions.

She also spoke to startling figures about C-Sections, which are used far too often in all birth, but are most prevalent in communities of color, and what we must to do level the playing field when it comes to maternal mortality, which disproportionately impacts Black moms and mothers-to-be.
