Westchester Worker Dies In Fall On Long Island

His was one of two fatal falls Monday in West Hills and Holbrook.

PEEKSKILL, NY — Hector Aranda-Sanchez of Peekskill died Monday when he fell off a roof on Long Island.

He was working on the roof of Four Seasons Sunrooms and Windows at 5005 Veterans Memorial Highway when he fell at 3:40 p.m. He was pronounced dead at Long Island Community Hospital.

Aranda-Sanchez, 27, worked for John's Home Improvement, a Yonkers-based roofing company, police said.

He was the second man to die in a fall while working on Long Island Monday.

The first accident occurred in West Hills shortly before 11 a.m. Vicente Oliver, a landscaper for Rodney's Landscaping, was trimming a tree outside a home on Bluebird Lane when a branch he was secured to broke and he fell about 40 feet to the ground, Suffolk police said.

Oliver, 51, of Levittown, was taken by ambulance to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of both accidents and is investigating.
