How you can help track voting problems during the midterm elections

The election is less than a month away. If you're planning to vote, either on Nov. 6 or during North Carolina's early voting period, you can help ensure the integrity of the election. Here's how.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The election is less than a month away. If you're planning to vote, either on Nov. 6 or during North Carolina's early voting period, you can help ensure that every qualified voter gets to cast a ballot.

If you encounter any problems that prevent people from voting – such as long lines, registration problems, purged voter rolls, broken machines, voter intimidation or changed voting locations – let us know, using the directions below. You can also just tell us about your voting experience. Here’s how to sign up:

  • SMS: Send the word VOTE, VOTA (for Spanish) or 投票 (for Chinese) to 81380 (standard text message rates apply).
  • WhatsApp: Send the word VOTE, VOTA (for Spanish) or 投票 (for Chinese) to 1-850-909-8683.
  • Facebook Messenger: Go to m.me/electionland.
  • Sign up using the form embedded at the bottom of this ProPublica post.
In 2016, the Electionland coalition looked at thousands of tips from a legal call center hotline, as well as thousands of text messages and social media posts. Local journalists around the country reported 400 stories and helped bring attention to voting problems that were fixed before polls closed.
