NEW YORK - Cynthia Nixon has secured her place on the primary ballot for governor.

The former "Sex and the City" star collected 65,000 signatures on her petition - five times the required amount.

More than 3,000 volunteers helped gather signatures before Thursday's deadline.

"In New York, a candidate can be knocked from the ballot for something as small as having a page out of order. The system is not designed to give the voters a choice, to make voters voices' heard. It is designed to protect the status quo and to allow legal challenges which we fully anticipate the governor to do," Nixon said.

Polls show Governor Andrew Cuomo has a strong lead in the primary race and is ahead in fundrasing.

Nixon points to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's win over Joe Crowley as an example of what could happen.
