On Monday, WalletHub.com released a report comparing nearly 200 cities across “35 key indicators of safety,” with datasets ranging from assaults per capita to unemployment rate and roadway quality. The study determined that Yonkers ranked as the safest in the state, as compared to Buffalo, Rochester and New York City.

Other results determined that Yonkers was the eighth safest city in the nation in the category of “Home and Community Safety” and was ranked as the 15th city overall in the country.

According to police, “these findings support the Department’s own analysis of FBI statistics, where the City of Yonkers has consistently ranked the 2nd safest city in the nation when compared to cities of similarly sized populations.”

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano stated that “Yonkers’ ranking on Wallethub’s list is the net result of the hard work and commitment of all our dedicated police officers who promote positive community outreach and engagement programs.”

“These findings by WalletHub.com supports what the residents of Yonkers have known for a long time now, that the men and women of the Yonkers Police Department are working hard to keep our communities safe and make Yonkers a great place to work, live, and raise a family,” Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner added.

“The credit for these excellent numbers goes to the members of our Police force, the City administration that supports our efforts, and the residents we serve and work together with every day.”
