Top Dem: Trump’s voter fraud commission will accomplish what Putin wants
Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) ripped President Trump’s voter fraud commission in a tweet Sunday, saying Russian President Vladimir Putin wants the commission to discredit the democratic process.
Durbin’s tweet comes as Trump’s voter fraud commission, which is led by Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, continues to face scrutiny.
“[President Trump’s] voter fraud commission wants to suppress the right to vote and discredit our Democratic process. Exactly what Vladimir Putin wants,” Durbin tweeted, along with a Washington Post op-ed titled “Kobach is a useful idiot for Russia.”

The commission was designed to investigate whether there is widespread vote fraud taking place in America. Trump created the commission after repeatedly claiming, without evidence, that millions of illegal votes had been cast in the election, which cost him the popular vote.
The election commission has faced widespread pushback from both Republican and Democratic officials at the state level who have refused to provide all of the voter information the commission requested.
