Australian law firm Lander & Rogers has introduced a “no bystanders rule” that makes it compulsory for staff to report sexual harassment they witness, as the profession more broadly confronts a culture of silence around the issue.

Managing partner Genevieve Collins describes the change as a tweak from “should report” to “must report” when a staff member witnesses or hears about an incident of sexual harassment or is subject to one themselves. The policy also requires staff to report harassment if they have been told about it by another staff member.
