Peter Niven, special counsel at Buddle Findlay was interviewed by the NBR. A High Court judge has ruled the director of the SFO acted unlawfully when trying to stop former Zespri chairman John Loughlin from having his lawyer of choice present in an interview. Peter Niven says "the Court emphasized the importance of the right in the Bill of Rights Act for a person to be able to have a lawyer that they choose, but also recognised that there are and can be practical limitations to that right."
