K&L Gates names industrial relations expert as new partner in Melbourne
Global law firm K&L Gates has tapped Steven Amendola as a new partner in its Melbourne office, the firm announced on Monday. The move is part of efforts to bolster its labour, employment, and workplace safety practice in the region.

The industrial relations expert joins the firm from Ashurst. He is known as one of Australia’s leading practitioners in the field, with 35 years of experience as a workplace-relations and employment lawyer.

“Australia’s industrial relations environment continues to be a hotbed of activity with high-profile disputes dominating press coverage,” said Amendola.
Among other things, he has been involved in a number of high-profile matters such as the national waterfront dispute; and test cases relating to issues such as right of entry, bargaining fees, and industrial action.

“[Amendola’s] extensive experience allows him the ability to think strategically and methodically to help clients avoid costly and lengthy disputes whilst effectively managing workplace incidents and investigations. We are very pleased to welcome Steven to the partnership,” said Nick Nichola, K&L Gates’ managing partner in Australia.

According to the law firm, Amendola has a particular focus on enforcement and freedom of association provisions of the Fair Work Act 2009, key provisions dealing with collective agreement making, and various discrimination issues.
